Dexter Early - Destin's Boggy Bayou Inshore Charters

Summer fishing is in full swing on the Gulf Coast. This week’s fishing report Choctawhatchee Bay and surrounding waters highlights a highly productive morning bite before the midday heat sets in. Water temperatures are sitting in the mid-to-upper 80s, which means getting an early start is the key to finding active fish in the shallows.

If you are wondering what fish are biting in Panama City Beach right now, the answer is solid numbers of redfish, speckled trout, and seasonal pelagics. We are finding slot-sized redfish cruising the grass flats and oyster bars during the incoming tide. Live pilchards and pinfish pitched near the structure have been the baits of choice to get them chewing.

The speckled trout bite has also remained remarkably consistent. We are targeting them over the deeper grass beds in 4 to 6 feet of water. Throwing live shrimp under popping corks or working soft plastic swimbaits early in the morning has yielded excellent results for our guests.

Alongside our primary inshore targets, we are seeing plenty of Spanish mackerel and mangrove snapper moving near the bridges and inlets. These species provide fast-paced activity and constant bites, making this the perfect time of year for family fishing trips Panama City Beach. Kids and beginners are staying fully engaged, learning the ropes, and reeling in steady catches all morning long.

Summer dates are moving fast as vacationers finalize their itineraries. If you want to experience the local fishery with one of the most dependable PCB fishing charters, reach out to Captain Dexter to lock in your morning on the water. Let’s get you set up for a highly productive day of fishing in Panama City Beach Florida.

<div>Fishing structure with artifical baits has be paying off. this big boy took the bait and the fight was on! The Bull red got aroud part of the structure. My client could feel the line rubbing against the structure. I manuvered the boat around the structure and the Bull red came out. I quickly loosened the drag and moved the boat away from the structure. By then the Bull was getting tired. My client work him gently to the boat where I netted him. After a quck picture it took several minutes to revive the Bull before i released him. It felt great to watch him swim away.</div>

Captain Dexter Early is no stranger to the waters of Panama City Beach. Born and raised fishing Choctawhatchee Bay and its winding tributaries, he learned the ins and outs of the bay system from his family, who have been connected to these waters for generations. From an early age, he was immersed in the fishing lifestyle, watching and learning from seasoned anglers and watermen. That upbringing created the foundation for a lifetime of expertise, curiosity, and respect for the marine environment he now calls his office. Before launching Destin's Boggy Bayou Inshore Charters, Captain Dexter built a long career in commercial fishing, starting out as a hardworking deckhand and eventually running his own 58-foot shrimp trawler for over two decades. That experience gave him a deep understanding of fish behavior, local tides, weather patterns, and safe navigation—skills that can only come from time spent on the water. This background also helps him adapt to different conditions and spot patterns that less experienced guides might miss. Today, Captain Dexter puts his knowledge to work in a new way: guiding anglers of all skill levels to success on the water. He’s especially known for his easygoing style and natural ability to teach. Whether you're a complete beginner or a seasoned fisherman, he takes time to explain techniques and share stories from the bay. He's especially patient with kids, making family outings smooth and fun. What sets him apart is not just his experience—but how he uses it to make every trip comfortable, educational, and enjoyable. About The BoatThe boat you’ll be fishing on is an 18-foot Tracker, a 2016 aluminum skiff built for shallow water exploration. Its flat-bottom hull allows Captain Dexter to access tight inshore spots where redfish, trout, and flounder love to hide. Designed with safety and comfort in mind, it’s fully equipped with modern fishing gear, life jackets, and everything needed for a productive day on the water.
